Assignment description

The Centre of Expertise Biobased Economy is participating in a new project about pyrolysis. One of the tast of the research group Biobased Resources & Energy is to perform life cycle analysis (LCA) on the pyrolysis of multiple residual (plastic) streams. LCA is an assessment of the environmental impact of a certain product or process. LCA is more complex and provides a wider insight in environmental effects than for example a carbon footprint or a water footprint. Performing LCA for multiple products can show which product are most promising to pyrolyze from an environmental point of view.


You will assist the LCA team by performing LCA on the pyrolysis of multiple residual (plastic) streams. You will be in contact with project partners to gather data, write a scope and model the data in GaBi software. GaBi is a specific LCA modelling program to measure environmental impacts. You are going to assess and compare different residual streams in terms of LCA.

You will be working for the Biobased Resources & Energy research group within the Centre of Expertise Biobased Economy (CoE BBE). The Centre of Expertise Biobased Economy is powered by the Avans University of applied sciences and HZ Univeristy of applied sciences and helps businesses achieve their biobased goals by working with them to modernize higher professional education and to carry out applied research that makes a difference. The CoE BBE does this by producing highly skilled professionals who can support and shape the transition to a biobased society. The Biobased Resource & Energy research group is focusing on valorizing residual streams from nature, agriculture or industrial sources and the production and use of biobased energy, while cherishing the environment.
