Assignment description
For an international project on the production of PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoates) from sewage, the research group Biobased Resource & Energy looked at a variety of GIS (geographical information system) analysis to determine optimal geographical possibilities for PHA production. The next challenge is to say something about the environmental sustainability of this process, its circularity in specific. Do you have affinity with sustainability assessments? LCA, circularity, mass- and energy balances? Than this might be a great assignment for you!

Your goal is to assess the circularity of PHA production from sewage via a centralized and decentralized route of processing.

Who we are:
You will be working for the Biobased Resources & Energy research group within the Centre of Expertise Biobased Economy (CoE BBE). The Centre of Expertise Biobased Economy is powered by the Avans University of applied sciences and HZ University of applied sciences and helps businesses achieve their biobased goals by working with them to modernize higher professional education and to carry out applied research that makes a difference. The CoE BBE does this by producing highly skilled professionals who can support and shape the transition to a biobased society. The Biobased Resource & Energy research group is focusing on the production and use of biobased energy and the valorization of residual streams from nature, agricultural and industrial sources while cherishing the environment.

Internship allowance: €350/month
Internship period: 2nd February 2023 – 7th July 2023
