Students from different educational levels (VMBO, MBO, HBO) and researchers from the Smart Energy lectorate at Avans University of Applied Sciences are building a SolarTuk together. The students are so enthusiastic about the project that at the end of the day they often don’t even want to go home. How great is that!

The solar tuktuk is a completely self-sufficient and modular vehicle, making it widely usable as a learning and promotional tool in education and for research projects. Through this beautiful vehicle, we are working on energy transition. This is because the SolarTuk contains solar panels that power the battery. This principle is the same as solar panels at home. Students can do real-time experiments with the SolarTuk. It becomes a tool to explain different aspects of the energy transition: What is a solar panel? What are the smart grid techniques and procedures? What batteries exist? Can we develop certain components ourselves? In addition, the SolarTuk creates awareness about the energy transition we are in.

In addition, this project is an inspiration and learning tool for the Advantix student team. A mixed team of different disciplines and levels who will build an electric race car in the coming years. Another cool project where education and research around energy transition come together!

By placing the SolarTuk in different places all the time, Redouane Eddeane, lecturer-researcher at the Smart Energy lectureship, wants to make prospective students enthusiastic about a future in technology. Because we really need them to make the energy transition a success.
