Publication date
1 December 2021

The event will take place at St. Joost School of Art & Design in Breda from 12.00 am (noon) until 5.30 pm.

Recent climate changes, environmental deterioration and biodiversity loss have shown that it is not possible to maintain our current unlimited extraction of earth’s resources such as oil, precious metals and nutrients. It is clear that we need to make the transition to a sustainable circular society. Fortunately humans have always been very resourceful in coming up with solutions to wicked problems. One of these solutions is the valorisation of what are now considered as residual streams or waste.

Minisymposium
Prior to the inaugural lecture of Jappe de Best, the research group Biobased Resources & Energy organizes a minisymposium about the recovery of raw materials and energy from residual streams. Find out more about the future of renewable fuels, how to make bioplastics from sewage, what you can do with cashew nut shells, and how we can determine if products from waste are more sustainable and environmental friendly.

Inaugural lecture
During his inaugural lecture, Jappe will take you on a journey about the past, present and future of the recovery of valuable resources from residual streams. How can this resource recovery contribute to the realization of a new circular and sustainable society and what is the link with the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals? Which challenges do we face and how can we overcome them?

Please reserve Thursday February 3rd 2022 in your agenda. The official invitation and registration link will follow in a few weeks
